What's New?
There are several fixes of
user problems included in version 1.5. As with most of the other modules,
Netscape is the automatic default browser for SmartSuite on installation.
Changes have been made to address the Year 2000 problems and the Euro currency
is now supported. While 1-2-3, Approach and Word Pro now support LotusScript
Release 4.0, Freeland Graphics still uses Release 3.0. Certain time limited
SmartMasters have been replaced with more up-to-date ones to show years
1999 and 2000 instead of 1997 and 1998.
Caveats
When printing handouts or speaker's notes with some SmartMaster Looks, there are problems with some
parts of the slide not printing. Workaround: Change the look and it will probably print correctly. You many have to try several looks before you find one that works.
The Euro will not display
properly if you do not have a fixpak on OS/2 Warp 4 that is greater than
FixPak 6.
The online help does have
some errors including some of the help line telephone numbers.
Check the readme file for
known issues and some workarounds.
Summary
Freelance Graphics is a valuable
tool to have available if you are making presentations or just preparing
and distributing information. It allows you to share that information:
- by connecting to a projector
and allowing a room full of people to view it at the same time
-
by displaying it on a monitor
for a small group
-
by using the Team Show function
and sharing the information over an Intranet or Internet
-
by publishing the presentation
to an Internet site
-
by printing handouts for a number
of people
-
by printing transparencies for
overhead projectors
-
by other any means of distribution
that you can create
Through the use of SmartMasters
and different "look" templates, an easy to use format (simple as fill-in
the blanks), the use of the Lotus Infobox to edit object attributes, and
the included graphics, animations, sounds and charts, Lotus Freelance Graphics
provides an effective method to develop and present information. As an
easy to use tool, it is an excellent choice for anyone who is trying to
disseminate information.
Is the new release 1.5 of
Lotus SmartSuite for OS/2 Warp 4 is worth the update price? Just looking
at the Freelance Graphics module I would question whether you were getting
your money's worth, but you must look at the entire package with all components
and decide based on which components you are planning to use.
